Nigeria to adopt Sri Lankan tactics against Boko Haram
Nigeria is studying the military tactics used by Sri Lanka to crush the rebel Tamil Tigers. This latest effort is to help in the Country’s battle against Islamist group Boko Haram. Nigeria’s defence headquarters Thursday held talks with their Sri Lankan counterpart. The discussion focused mainly on counter-insurgency tactics.
Nigeria’s Chief of defence staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said it was “seriously considering” methods employed by Sri Lanka including “total security”, which involved the translation of all the nation’s assets into military power to counter terrorism. They suggested that the military needed to enjoy the support of the entire country in its efforts to counter terrorism.
Sri Lanka fought for about 30 years against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels, who wanted to create a separate state for Sri Lanka’s Tamil minority.
