The local government elections which took place at the 44 local government areas and the 484 wards in Kano, Northern Nigeria, was marred by violence in some parts of the state yesterday. The skirmishes prevented some voters from exercising their franchise THISDAY newspapers reported. It was reported that some voters at Kofar Mata and Kibiya local councils attacked security agents guarding the polling units. There were also reports of ballot snatching In Gwarzo local government area of the state.

The outcome of the election will determine who controls the greater support between All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Rabiu Kwankwaso and the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ibrahim Shekarau, as the nation prepares for the presidential and governorship elections next year. The two politicians had recently switched parties following dissatisfaction with their previous political parties.
