Mikel is not good enough-Okocha
Having failed to penetrate the Greek defence-line in the friendly match yesterday, ex-Super Eagles’ midfield maestro, Austin Okocha believes the team needs a creative midfielder.
‘Having critically watched our match last night, we need a bit of depth in our midfield. Play maker is inevitable, for possession/killer passes,’ Okocha said yesterday after the stalemate against Greece.
The burden of creativity for the team had fallen on Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel after Okocha’s retirement, but the Chelsea man is not anywhere close to what Nigerians expect from their ‘number 10’.
Mikel, who earlier in his career was touted as the next Okocha, had had his creativity stifled at Chelsea, where he has been used in a less glamorous defensive midfield role. Although, he still plays in a more advanced position for Nigeria, Okocha thinks he is not doing enough.
