Nigeria nominates Alison Madueke as OPEC Secretary General

President Goodluck Jonathan has nominated the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, for the position of the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).A new Secretary General is expected to emerge when the tenure of incumbent, Abdullah al-Badri of Libya expires in December 2014. The 74 year old had been at the helms of affairs of OPEC since 2007.

If the move sails through, Alison-Madueke will become the first female Secretary-General of OPEC.
