Nigeria records second Ebola case
Nigeria on Monday confirmed a second case of Ebola. The second infected person is one of the doctors who treated Mr Sawyer, the Liberian man who died as a result of the disease at a Lagos hospital on the 20th of July. Nigeria’s Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu also confirmed that test samples for three other people that came in contact with Mr Sawyer are pending. The three people had also shown symptoms of Ebola. Mr Chukwu said the result for these people will be ready before the end of today.
Ebola can take between 2 to 21 days after contact with an infected person before symptoms begin to appear. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, muscle pains and headaches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. At advanced stages of the disease, patients have severe internal and external bleeding.
