According to reports on the BBC, a Royal Air force (RAF) spy plane, has left the UK to help Nigeria search for the over 200 missing school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram. The sentinel R1 spy plane made up of a crew of five, left UK at about 9.30am Sunday, from the Waddington RAF base and it will be operated from a base in Accra, Ghana. The plane is said to be capable of flying for a prolonged period at high altitude and also able to locate moving targets with its dual mode radar.

The British foreign secretary, William Hague had promised yesterday to ‘Embed its personnel’ with their Nigerian counterpart.

Boko Haram, had been fighting the Nigerian state since 2009 and the recent kidnap of the schoolgirls in Chibok had brought their atrocities to the limelight.
