WESTERN SAHARA TRANSMISSION COMPANY LIMITED TO COMMENCE ELECTRICITY TOWER MANUFACTURING
Symbion Power in partnership with Jyoti Americas and Iroko Capital Partners will commence the manufacture of power transmission towers in Nigeria. A new company to be formed by the partnership will be called Western Sahara transmission Company limited and will be involved in the entire power delivery value chain (including design, engineering, tower testing, tower manufacturing and construction). This will be the first local transmission tower manufacturing company in the country. Total investment in the project will be between 50 and 100 million dollars, which according to the deputy CEO of Symbion Power, William Olukoya, ‘is very scalable’. The new factory will be a 50,000 tons facility and steel will be sourced from renowned producers around the world.
Nigeria currently lacks sufficient electricity for its 170 million citizens. The country generates about 4,000 MW of electricity, which is severely short of the minimum requirement of 40,000 MW. The ongoing privatisation of state owned power infrastructures is expected to trigger new investments across the country’s electricity value chain.
